Reasons to See an Out-of-Network Therapist.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is a document that provides all the necessary information about your treatment that you can submit to your insurance provider for consideration of reimbursement. It includes details like the date of service, procedure codes, diagnosis codes, and the amount you paid.

How do I know if I have out-of-network benefits?

If you have a PPO plan, your plan likely includes out-of-network benefits. Your insurance card may state PPO or HMO on the front. To confirm whether your insurance plan offers out-of-network benefits, contact your insurance provider and ask if they cover services from providers who do not participate in their network. You can also ask them how much they reimburse for outpatient mental health services from out-of-network providers. This is typically a percentage that ranges from 40 to 60%. Every plan is different and we recommend contacting your insurance provider for details.

How do I submit a claim?

After receiving your superbill, you can submit a claim to your insurance company. Each insurance provider has a different process for submitting claims, so check with them directly for their procedures. Generally, you can submit it online, by telephone, or by mail.

Why consider seeing an out-of-network provider?

Seeing an out-of-network provider can give you more freedom in choosing your therapist or doctor, even if they don’t participate in your insurance network. Many PPO plans offer out-of-network benefits, which means you may still be reimbursed for a portion of the cost. By paying out-of-pocket, you might also have access to more specialized care that fits your needs.

How do I pay for sessions?

We accept credit cards, debit cards, and Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards for payment. These options help make paying for your sessions more convenient. Many private-pay patients find that using their HSA or FSA cards reduces the financial burden of mental health care.
